Saturday in Sweden
(Note: before you read this, check out my photo in the previous post).
I had a great time today in the Swedish city with my friends Judy and Sarah, who both live with me at the folk high school. We did some shopping, which was actually quite cheap because the US Dollar is strong against the Swedish Krona. I got a new sweater and scarf from H&M, which I didn’t know was Swedish until I came here. Scandinavians LOVE scarves (makes sense, with the cold). Our time shopping didn’t last long because all the stores closed at 4pm. They’re not even open at all on Sundays. We even got kicked out of a café/bakery at 4:30 because they were closing. Americans work longer than the people here, that’s for sure. The standard work week is three hours less, and they all get six weeks vacation. I think it helps them be a little less stressed.
Also along the city’s walking (i.e. no cars) street (which are quite popular, and very pleasant!), we went out for Korean food, which was amazingly good. It’s kind of funny, the owner of the restaurant warned me that my pork dish was spicy, but I found that it wasn’t nearly as spicy as the Korean food I had in the States. I think they tone it down for Northern Europeans, kind of like how Asians fry their food in America to adapt to our tastes.
For the rest of the night I’m taking it easy. After a week with five tests and a big project, I think I deserve it.
