My name is Phil and I'm from the Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts. I attend Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts, studying politics and sociology.

For the Spring 2009 semester, I'm participating in the Danish Institute for Study Abroad program in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Travel Plans for Break

It’s been a while since I last posted, so a lot has happened.  Basically, the time here is flying by.  After tomorrow’s classes I’m on a three week break.  Here’s my travel schedule:

Study Tour (integrated with one of my classes)

22/3: Dresden, Germany (city America fire-bombed in WWII, killing between 24,000 and 40,000 people)

23/3: Weimar, Germany (home of the Bauhaus, an important school in the history of modern architecture; home to the democratic government between the World Wars)

24/3-27/3: Berlin, Germany (capital city, tons of history, especially relating to WWII and the Cold War)

Independent Travel (backpacking!)

30/3: Trollhättan, Sweden (home of Saab)

31/3-2/4: Oslo, Norway (capital city)

3/4-6/4: Stockholm, Sweden (capital city)

7/4: Narvik, Norway (the furthest north the train goes in Norway)

8/4-10/4: Tromsø, Norway (city of 65,000 north of the Arctic Circle, one of the bet places in the world to see the northern lights)

11/4: Riga, Latvia (capital city, formerly Soviet, located on the Baltic Sea)
